B[_The regular monthly meeting of the BWangattui County Council was held ■yesterday morning. Present — Messrs BSonmiervflle (Chairman), Robertson, ■Handley, Abbott, and Kennedy. S JtfiuUTES.— The minutes of the pre■vious meeting were read and confirmed. H Eepobt. — The Treasurer's report was ■ Upokongaeo Ferry.— A letter from KlTr Betts was read, enclosing blank Rlease f or Upokongaro Ferry.— The Clerk K was instructed to return the letter, as 1 no instructions had been given on the R subject. E Doa Tax.— A letter from Mr W. C. I TFatkins was read, applying for office of ■J«g-Tax Collector. — Moved by Mr ■Mfratson, and seconded by Mr Handthe Chairman be authorized to terms with Mr Watkins. — CarA letter was read Mr H. Wilh'ams, complaining of Mr Brownlie's slaughterdamaging his paddock.— Keferred Inspector, to report at next meeting. Gates. — A letter was read from Mr McKay, re gates at Denlair. — Ecto Wangaehu Highway Board. Ctilvebts. — Letter from Mr D. Low, a report as to culvert and timber obtained, vide his letter.— : Culvert stand over. , ■
* Weighbridge.— A letter was receive from the Patea County Council, statin; that they did not require the weigh bridge, and asking to have the Waito tara Bridge screwed up, and offeringus of plant at half actual cost.— The Cler. was instructed to decline assistance w%t. thanfe,— The Chairman said he woul ask Mr D. Low to report as to what wa required. Feebtman.— Mr Kennedy said thai as arranged, he had engaged a person b take charge of the Upokongaro Ferr for three months at the same rent a heretofore.— The Chairman said that h considered that it would "be advisable t let the Ferry for a period of three years and he had prepared a draft of the con ditions under which he thought it woul< be desirable to lease it.— Draft condi tions read and approved. - PtrßLic NoimcATibN. — The Clerl was instructed to have clause 112 o " The Public Works Act, 1876," painte< on wood, and erected beside the scale o tolls at the Ferry, for the information o the general public. - ■ ■>'■■■■ Accounts. — Several accounts wer< passed for payment.
