BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The regular fortnightly-^meeting of the Council was held last evening. Pre--3 sent — Hia Worship the Mayor (in the chair), and Councillors Nathan, Sharp, • Spurdle, Richards, Cliadwiek, Willis, 6 Hurley, and Beaven. J The minutes of the previous meeting 1 were read and confirmed. 3 Cobeespondence. -^Letter from .F. 3 J. Jones, asking ' the Council to f allow the lamp to J remain at the 9 corner of Wicksteed and Ridgway ' streets, he agreeing to pay for gas. — J- Letter 'from AJ C. jDampbell, complain- *■ ing about being struck off the rate--1 payers' roll. It was resolved that Mr 3 Campbell be informed that the Council » could not help Mm in the matter. — > Letter from .Returning Officer, inform* r ing the Council of the election of Messrs "; Broughton and Liffiton as 'auditors. 3 Notice of Motion. — Or. Chadwick • gave notice of motion for next meeting, 1 that the resolution passed agreeing to J. remove the lamp at corner of Wicksteed ' and Itidgwaay street be rescinded. Report of Works' Committee. — 3 Tour Committee have to report that Mr 3 Sanders, the contractor for Government 7 reclamation, has now finished ' taking 1 sand out of St Hill-street, and are of > opinion that the agreement between the | Council ; and i: Mr Saadera lias been 5 carried but in a satisfactory manner. 3 The Committ.ee reapnimend. ttja't; .the' ! street be fenced, anil the, face of the ' slopes planted, and certain hillock's be ' levelled on the top of the ridge, with a > view to have that planted also.
