Oar chief hope is that, present low valu«s will bring the nni.-lo ioto use for many new textile purpose, and oo insure a steadier ran^e of value for the future. Tallow.— The last public sale was on 20th Decomber, when best mutton realised up to 38s ; and some exceptionally fine beef, 36s to 36s 9d per owt, but ordinary good beef i» not above 35s 6d ; the market is therefore substantially unaltered. Hidos and Leather.— Still a dull trade ; we havo no alterations in value to report. Wheat. — Prices are if anything lower than higher, New Zealand being now quoted 39s to 44s per 496, and flour 28s to 30s. We havo had a severe fortnight's frost, which lasted up to Christmas Day, when a rapid thaw ensued and we have since had mild weather with some heavy rains. Kauri Gum is selling at steady prices, but the demand is chiefly for the better claBS-s, rough and pickings being rather diffioult of gale. Johnson and Allsup.
