Birdcatcher, sire of the Baron, winner of the Derby iv 1846 Baron is sire of Stockwell. Stockwell is one of the most fashionably bred horses, of the present duy, and was winner of the 2000 guineas stake and the St. Leger in 1852, and is the sire of Blair Afchol, winner of tlie Derby and St. Leger in 18U4. Stockwell is also the sire of Lord I yon, winner of the Derby, St Leger,. and 200 guinea stakes in 1866, and sire of Doncaster, winner of the Derby in 1873. Sire of Regalia, winner of the Oaks, in 1865. Sire of Achievement, winner of St. Leger ; and 1000 guineas stake in 1867. Sire of St. Albans, winner of, St. Ley;er in 1860. De Ruyter is by Lannercost, out of Barwell, datn <:f the Flying Dutchman, winner of the Derby and St. Leger in 1849. Grand dam or Elswick, Netlierton Maid, by Sheet Anchor ; great Grandsire of Elswick on the dam's side ; Sheet Anchor, sire of Main Brace ; Main Brace sire of the renowned Fisherman. Bred by Mr Alexander Auchenmaid, Kilwinning, Ayrshire. He is a dapple bay, six years old, stands seventeen hands high, showing great strength and breadth of bone ; is free from all hereditary disease, or taint of any kind. When one year old, gained the First Prize at the Ayrshire Society's Show ; when two years old, First Prize from the same Society ; when three years old, gained the Renfrewshire Society's First Prize of £50, to serve mares in the district ; and also the Glasgow (Society's First Prize for three-year-olds. RED PRINCE was highly commended at the Highland Society's Show at Perth, when tweuty-four horses uonipeted ; was second for the Glasgow Spring Show, . "when fifty-four horses competed; afterwards. gained the Strathendrick Prize of £60 and silver nieda, to serve mares at £2, with a guarantee of £100; he was drawn at the Highland Society's Show, at Kelso, one of the six out of the nineten cracks of Scotland, after coming off a heavy season ; aud gained Second Prize at the Grand National Society's Show of Victoria, August 18, 1873. Gained " the First Prize at Lincoln, for the best horse travelling the district, andsecond at Christchurch. His sire,. Mr Stevonsn's horse Bickerfield, a celebrated well-known Breeding Horse, which left a large number of good stock in 'the' district; grandsire, Renfrewshire Jock, when one and two years old, gained prizes at Kilmalcolm and Greenock ; when four years did he ' gained ' the "Renfrewshire Society's, Prize of £40.; ''Great graudsire Lofty, gained the First Prize £40, at Dalkeith ; the following year at Glasgow, the First Prize of £40 and a silver medal, and was afterwards sold for £350 to go to Australia. His dam is a pure- bred Clydesdale mare, got by Mr Fulton's, of Sprowlston, far-famed horse JBritton. She has gained the Fir't prizes at the District Shows; was fourth at' the Highland Society's Shows at Perth, in 1871, and second at Glasgow. The following is an extract from the ' Glasgow Herald': — "Show of Stallions. — There was a great Show of Stallions in the Cattle Market, Glasgow, on Wednesday, brought together to compete for the premiums offered by the Glasgow and other Agricultural Societies. The Glasgow Society offered a premium of fiity guineas and a silver medal for the best Stallion for Agricultural purposes. There were fifty-four entries as against sixty-three last year. The judges awarded the premium and medal to Premier, a fine bright bay, four years old. the property cf Mr Robert McKean, though the decision was not arrived at without difficulty ; there were seven judges, and hree of them were in favour of deciding for Mr Me Culloch's lied I'rince ; this latter horse was decidedly the general favourite, and it was the opinion of many well-known and experienced agriculturists that he should have had the prize."
