NOTICES TO THE RATEPAYERS OF TBE WANGANUI (TOWN) EDUCATIONAL DISTRICT. r\ ENTLEMEN,— I beg to offer myself as a Candidate for your suffrages to represent you in the Wellington Educacation Board, and trusting that my past efforts to secure a sound education for the rising generation will secure your support at the forthcoming election. I remain, Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, W. H. WATT. Sept 15 TO THE RATEPAYERS OF THE WANGANUI EDUCATIONAL DIS TRICT. f^\ ENTLEMEN,— I am a Candidate VX for a seat (as your Representative) at the Education Board for the Province of Wellington. I consider it, under the circumstances, to be due to you, that I should briefly explain my views on the Education question. lam fully persuaded that it is the duty of the State to provide Education for the children who are its subjects, and who, as they grow to years of maturity, must have reciprocal rights and obligations. To attain the desired end it is clear that, as far as possible, the meaus of Education should be framed on the broadest principles, and, as soon as possible, on a national basis. To effect this object it is well that parents and the public generally should join in carrying out the details, and have a voice in the local administration. Herein our present Provincial legislation is defective, inasmuch as while the administration is central, so also is the control. The present Nominated Committees of Advice are clearly insufficient, and are delusive. To adapt our present machinery as far as possible to the ends I have indicated, while looking for a better system in the impending changes in the Colony, would be my aim and purpose if elected as your representative. Much may be done in this way, and what is possible I will do. I would be prepared, in the spirit of this reform, to sanction assistance in all cases where education may be possible, and where schools may be found under such management as should meet the approval of the Inspector. My advocacy will always be for education on the broadest and most liberal principles, irrespective of class or creed, but not refusing assistance where the withholding would injure the dissemination of education, for " knowledge is power.' I have the hon jr to be, Gentlemen, Tour obedient servant, JOHN MORGAN. Sept. 14. NEW LINE OF COACHES.
