A ketch, supposed to be the Emerald, crossed the bar yesterday, but was unable to coraa up the river for want of wind. The Manawatu left Wellington at 10 o'clock on Monday night, aud arrived at this port at -7 p.m. yesterday. Captain Evans reports that on his last trip to Wellington he met the Storm Bird at Wellington Heads, on her trial trip, which vessel, immediately on sighting the Manawatu, turned round to try a "race, but as the Mauawatu was taken by surprise, her engines were stopped until more steam was obtained, and on the way up the harbour the two steamers had one good spu t, ■when both were doing their level best the 'N.
