WANGANUI-WAITOTARA HIGHWAY B OARD.

[To the Editor of the Chronicle.) Sir, — It seems not improbable that the election for No. 3 Ward will send ray friends, Messrs Alexander and Heslop to — I was going to say, to Karori — but that term is now becoming obsolete. But wh.etb.er or not, they seem quite demented ; and no better proof of my assertion is necessary than Mr Alexander's letter, which appeared in last night's 'Herald.' I am not going bo follow that gentleman, cr attempt to prove what he said to Mt Heslop, or what Mr Heslop said to him ; but, once and for all, I will give the gist of the whole matter, which is simply as follows: — I was waited on by two most importunate beggars, and, being over credulous, I yielded to their importunities, under impressions and expectations which I soon afterwards found were not at all likely to be realised : I consequently changed my mind, and frankly apologised to Mr Heslop for so doing, which I consider was all he had any right to expect from me. With reference to Mr. Ballance's denial of the truthfulness of my statement regarding his misrepresentations concerning the show of hands at the Kangitikei election, I have only to say that I am willing to meet him at Marton on any day that he may be pleased fco appoint, and to prove the accuracy of my charge, oat of the mouths of several witnesses. Yours, &c, June 14. VV. H. Watt.
