May 7. Rain is coming down at last. The natives at Kopua refuse to allow Europeans to shoot there this year although the place is swarming with pheasants. They allege as their reason that it might tempt some of the bad ones amongst them to murder, and so cause trouble. Anyone found trespassing is to have his gun taken away.
