WELLINGTON.
May 7. Provincial Council— Considerable discussion on the Education Act Amendment Act. Andrew opposed the measure strongly but the Bill went through committee, and will be read a third time to-day. Andrew moved his burlesque address in reply. It was seconded by Beetham, and negatived on the voices. A. special grant of £224 was put on the estimates for the Featherston Highway Board. £4067 was voted to meet the unauthorised expenditure for the year. A constable is to be placed at Castle Point. A motion by Andrew to place on the estimates £2000 for the Mangapakeha Road, was negatived. The motion of Andrew to obtain £1500 for a rosd from Blair Logic to Masterton was also uegatived. Pearce moved for £4000 te be put on the estimates for erecting a new wing to the Wellington College. Bunny opposed the motion which was lost by 1 1 to 6Beetham asked for £100 to clear the stumps and timber on the main road through Carterton — negatived. Arrived — Egmont from Wanganui. Sailed— Manawatu for Wanganui. Passengei's—Messrs H. Black, Kearney, Brown, Mrs Hardy, and Master Field. I
