THE ALARMING COACH ACCIDENT.

[To the Editor of the Eventng Herald.) Sir, — In your issue of yesterday you treat the public to a sensational paragraph headed as above, in which your "reporter" must have largely drawn on his fertile imagination for particulars. Notwithstanding that coach accidents are always to be deplored, I do not think it is. the duty of a journalist to create unnecessary alarm in the min'ls of persons who may have had friends in the coach at the time, by " painting " hairbreadth escapes, &c, when in fact the injury to the passengers is comparatively

\ " nil." The bank is not : 36 :^^ ! it is a gradual decline, and "the-Jcoach^'clid 1 not roll over twice nor once, which any person can see by looking at the place. Mr Harrison was never insensible, nor was there any black eye when the passen^rs left Wangaeliii, on their onward journey. It was not the fault of the colt (as you please j to call him) but of a boy with a load of wool, covered by a tarpaulin, and not fastened, but napping with the wind ; and the narrow and crooked road. By inserting this in this evening's issue yon will oblige — Yours &c. James Y. Hbnrv. CoKb's Office, VVanganui, 27.11.74. By the ' Herald ' of this evening it is stated that the information was derived from one of the passengers, and from personal observation of the reporter. Now I must state that the passenger referred to was inside the coach, and consequently could see nothing of the cause, and the reporter was miles away trying to sell beer, and therefore could have no personal observation. — I am &c. J. Y. H.
