THE LONDON WOOL SALES,

Messrs Jacoinb, Son, & Co, m a report dated March 20th, state — •'The first series of public sales of colonial wools for the current year, which commenced on Tuesday, the 17th of February, has closed this day. The opening was postponed five days on account of the general election, and one day of sale was lost by fog. It appears that about 9000 bales of old stock have been brought forward at this series, About 74.000 bales out of the quantity sold have been taken for export, purchases for America having been inconsiderable. The attendance at the earlier sales was extraordinarily large, and competition throughout has been very animated till within the last few. days when neither the tone, nor the prices of the best of the series, in many inBtances, have been sustained. From New Zealand there has been but a poor assortment of the old clip (nearly half of the quantity has been old stock), which has sold about on the same average as parallel qualities of Victorian. " Ensuing public sales of Colonial wools here are fixed for Tuesday, the 28th April. And it is arranged that Tuesday shall be the opening day for the future. By last accounts about 7000 bales were being shipped from Victoria direct to United States of America and some considerable quantity, also, from New Zealand We are glad to see that the evil of overduinpiE g wool bales to which we so long ago drew attention is attracting notice in other quarters."
