DUNEDIN.

April 30th. Provincial Council opened yesterday. Amongst the measures proposed are— the deepening of the Otago Harbor, opening one hundred thousand acres of land annually on deferred payment ;. steps to be taken to give miners freeholds of land they mine on, so as to stop destruction of the country ; asylum for inebriates ; Industrial School for criminal children ; several new linns of branch railways to be constructed by money borrowed on specific blocks of land ; proposed to raise price of land to £2 per acre. The Executive of the Provincial Council has reaigned to-day. The cause assigned is pressure of private business. It is expected that a coalition with Mr Donald Reid, or another member of hit* party will take office. It is stated that 33 of the * Asia ' females were taken out of the Queenstown reformatory, Patrick Long, for the murder at Greet* Island, has been convicted for manslaughter and remanded for sentence.
