CORRESPONDENCE.

To the Editor of the Wananga. Friend, salutations to you. Insert our thoughts in Te Wananga. The following is a notice from us the tribes of the South to all the tribes of New Zealand:Our hands are lifted up to Sir George Grev and his colleagues, and let him and his f.-llow-Ministcrs have the power and be the Government. The reason why these tribes have lifted up their hands to Sir George Grey" is. because of the weieht with which some of the laws like a joke bears on our neeks. the weight of which commenced in the year ]s3y. and even up to the year 1>43. and 1860. and IS'53. when the weight increased with the increased sorrow of mind. And that weight is still on us. and that which would be an act of justice towards us is that we should have a lighter yoke. Hence. Sir George Grey has said, let the voke be lighter for the two tribes —the Maori and the European. We quote the words of David the Kine. where he said. •• How good and how pleasant it is to see brothers living in nnitv."' Even so are the words of Queen Victoria in the " Treatv* of Waitaugi." where it is said. - Put crime down, and do" not take the lands of the Maori.'" but the words of the Queen were not liked by the Government of New Zea'and. but what they did w:sh to see accomplished is what Paul the Apostle said. " The root of ail evil is money"" to the tribes of New Zealand. The acts of the tribes of* New Zealand are good, some tribes uphold the power of the Queen, and some live in peace. And in these days peace has become a fact between the two people, but the laws have not in all instances become a fact t-warc's us (the Maori people).
