FRENCH RAILWAYS
IN STATE OF COMPLETE CHAOS ACCORDING TO PARIS RADIO. WORK OF ALLIED AIRMEN AND SABOTEURS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.10 a.m.) LONDON, May 23. “The French railway system is in compleie chans,’’ declared a Paris radio commentator. The Allies have successfully pulverised the whole of the marshalling yards to rubble. They have destroyed countless locomotives and made scores of railway stations unusable.
“The rest of the destructive work, which Allied pilots were unable to do, was accomplished by squads of experienced saboteurs, who have blown up railway trucks and directed attacks against goods trains and other rolling stock. Saboteurs have also put out of action the whole hydro-electric system in France and blown up vital river locks. The whole problem of transport in France is thus desolate.”
