WHOLE. OF THE CRIMEA LIBERATED Announcement by Marshal Stalin LONDON, May 9. Marshal Stalin announced tonight the capture of Sebastopol, and the liberation of the whole of the Crimea. The greatest salute, of 24 salvoes from 324 of'Moscow’s guns, will be fired tonight. This salute is reserved for specially significant victories. The final assault has taken only three days. Russian troops, strongly backed up by artillery and planes, broke through three lines of concrete defences and smashed their way into the city.
