SHOT FIRED
AT PRESIDENT OF MEXICO. ARMY OFFICER ARRESTED. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, Noon.) MEXICO CITY, April 10. An Army lieutenant, Lama Rojas, attempted to assassinate President Camacho when he was walking from his car to his private elevator in the national palace. Rojas saluted and walked towards President Camacho, who, thinking Rojas desired an interview, paused. The lieutenant then fired an automatic pistol. The bullet entered President Camacho’s clothes but did not wound him. President Camacho seized and held his assailant until assistance arrived. Rojas, when questioned, explained that he wanted to protest to the President because he was not allowed to attend Mass in uniform, which he considered unfair. An Associated Press correspondent says several Nazi documents were found on Rojas's person. The bullet passed through President Camacho s coat directly above his heart. The President made light of the affair, saying: “We must regard this as a single incident, not as a division in the Mexican family.”
