WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
SOLWAY-MANAIA MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the SolwayManaia Women’s Institute was held in the Epiphany Hall, Masterton, on Thursday. Mrs Scrivener presided over a fair attendance. Four new members were enrolled. Mesdames Groombridge and Minton were appointed delegates to the annual meeting of the Wairarapa Federation, which will be held on April 19. Mesdames Catton and Cornick volunteered to visit sick members during April. A demonstration by Mrs Scharnweber on the making of posies and' shoulder sprays was most interesting. She was accorded a hearty vote of thanks and presented with a box of fruit. The competitions resulted as follows: —Easter novelty: Mrs Cation, 1; Mrs Carr, 2; Mrs Scrivener, 3. Cooking: Mrs Munn, 1; Mrs S. Allan, 2; Mrs Woollett, 3. Sand saucer: Mrs Catton, 1. Large bloom: Mrs Wesney, 1; Mrs Carr, 2. Small bloom: Mrs Scrivener, 1; Mrs Catton, 2. The programme for next month is:— Roll call, “A kindness you have always remembered;” sewing, article made from an old Turkish towel; cooking, rock cakes, using dripping; flowers: posy, large or small bloom. The hostesses will be Mesdames Carr, ■ Dornan, Diamond and Davies.
