STATE SUPERANNUITANTS

BONUS OF £26 A YEAR. SUBJECT TO INCOME LIMITATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Dgy. An announcement that the Government had decided to grant a cost-of-living bonus to State superannuitants of £26 a year, provided the total income from all sources (exclusive of the bonus) did not exceed £335 a year, was made on Thursday by the Acting Minister of Finace, Mr Sullivan. In cases where the total income exceeds £335, the amount of bonus will be reduced by £1 for every complete £1 of income above £335. No bonus will therefore be payable beyond £361. “The Prime Minister,’ said Mr Sullivan, “undertook during the election campaign to have the superannuitants’ position investigated, and as a result it has been decided to met the position as I have indicated.

“The Prime Minister recently announced that a Cabinet Committee has been set up to investigate the whole question of superannuation as it affects members of the Government services and superannuitants, and it must be understood that the decision to grant a cost-of-living bonus is calculated to meet the position of those superannuitants who have not benefited from the operation of social security and who are unable to augment their income by performing some war service. Other issues which have been raised will receive the attention of the Government Committee.”

Payment of the bonus will operate as from October 1, 1943.
