CHOCOLATE SUPPLIES

SERVICE FOR NEW ZEALAND FORCES. 36 TONS SENT TO DATE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, April 6. Since the postal chocolate service for New Zealand forces was inaugurated by the National Patriotic Fund Board on January 17, post offices throughout the Dominion, acting as receiving agents, have handled 40,750 orders Each is- for 21b. of block chocolate,’ so the total orders to date represent 36 tons of chocolate. The Patriotic Fund Board has received numerous letters . from personnel in the Pacific thanking the board for instituting the service, in addition to the tobacco service, and expressing appreciation of the quality and the way the chocolate opened up. There has not been time yet for letters to arrive from Italy and those serving further afield who have been sent chocolate by relatives or friends under the service. The handling and execution of the orders involve a good deal of extra work but orders are being dealt with as promptly as conditions permit and so far, good results have been achieved.

It is suggested that when relatives, friends or business premises order chocolate for more than one member of the forces they should write the names and addresses on the ackftowledgment part of the order forms, so that when they receive the serial numbers of the parcels from, the board through the post they will be able to advise the addressees that the order has gone forward.
