HOME HEALTH GLIDE

<* TAKE CARE OF YOUR SKIN. RULES FOR MAINTAINING HEALTH (By the Department of Health.) _ To a modern miss, care of the skin implies chiefly careful selection of the right brand of face cream and powder, and its judicious application. That s all to the good, too. but there is more to skin care than that. A good complexion is something to be valued ana looked after, and the basis of a gooa complexion, and indeed, of a good skm all over, is inward good health. That is the point that is liable to be overlooked. The average person rarely trnnKs oi the skm as an organ of the body, but it is one of the most important. No one could live if an extensive area were destroyed. It acts as a marvellous waterproof covering, its anti-infective function is remarkable, but, more important than all that, it controls the body temperature. It is an effective thermostat; it affords a cooling system in summer and a heat regulating mechanism in winter. Under conditions of health a normal degree of temperature —98 to 98. G degrees Fahr.—is maintained with equal facility in the torrid, frigid and temperate zones. The general rules for maintaining the health and- attractiveness oi the skin are exactly the same as those which are necessary for "the health of the body. These are adequate, restful sleep, regular- exercise, well-balanced meals, sensible exposure to sunlight, plus the liberal use of soap and water. Cosmetics are best removed with an inexpensive cleansing cream, followed by a wash with soap and water.
