Miss Joy Gooder, formerly of the staff of the “Wairarapa Times-Age,” and now a resident of Wellington, has passed the State nursing examination with honours. The death occurred at Makuri on Wednesday of a well-known resident, Mrs Miriam Ellen Moore z widow of Mr William J. Moore, of Makuri, at the age of 74- years. The engagement is announced of Terence Stephen Dwane, youngest son. of Mr and Mrs W. J. Dwane, of Carterton, and Elva May Sycamore, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs J. W. Sycamore, Mt. Manganui, Tauranga. Lieutenant Bernice Fairbrother, of the Salvation Army staff, Wellington, is staying with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Fairbrother, Opaki Road, Masterton, prior to her marriage to Captain Starke, officer-in-charge of Levin Salvation Army corps. The wedding will take place at the Salvation Army Hall, Masterton, on January 22. Dr. A. M. Finlay, who, is resigning from the position of private secretary to the Minister of Health, Mr Nordmeyer, this week to enter into private legal practice in Auckland, was the guest of honour at a farewell gathering attended by members of the secretarial corps in Parliament Buildings. Mr C. A. Jeffery, on.behalf of the corps, made a presentation to Dr. Finlay, and he and others spoke of the high esteem in which they held Dr. Finl&y. Mr C. E. Waynne is the Minister’s new private secretary, dealing with health matters, and Mr E. J. Sutch will handle the taxation and Customs side of the portfolio.
