MADE TO UNITED STATES NAW 65 AIRCRAFT CARRIERS COMPLETED. INCLUDING SIX OF LARGEST SIZE. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day. 11 a.m.) RUGBY.. January 6. ‘•The United States Navy has 65 air-craft-carriers, and is now the greatest sea and air power in the world, ’ said Mr J. V. Forrestal (Assistant Secretary to the Navy), in Washington. -We have completed six 27.000 ton carriers of the Essex type, nine light 10,000 ton carriers of the converted cruiser type, and fifty escort carriers.” he added. -In 1943 1.60,000 tons of combatant ships were completed, almost double the tonnage completed in 1942.”
