LAMBING ESTIMATES

WAIRARAPA FIGURES FOR 1943 SEASON In the last number of the N.Z. Journal of Agriculture is an 'article on the lambing estimates for 1943, contributed by the Live Stock Division. In the introductory it is stated: In estimating the number of lambs no account has been taken of the effect of a probable increase in the number of breeding ewes since the 1941 figures were collected and this must be borne in mind when comparing the estimated number of lambs with those of previous years. Taking the Dominion as a whole, the estimated lambing percentage is lower than that for the last three years, attributable to unseasonable conditions. As for the last six years South Island returns are higher than those for the North Island. In general there has been a considerable drop in all districts with the exception of Southland. The following figures for Wairarapa are of interest: —
