MEETING AT CARTERTON ARRANGEMENTS FOR AUTUMN SHOW (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr J. A. McLeod presided over an attendance of twenty members' of the general committee of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society at Carterton on Saturday. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £1333 6s Id. It was decided that letters of sympathy be sent to Mr R. G. Kemble m his illness and to Mrs W. B. Martin m the death of her son. It was resolved to forward to Mrs E. M. Pink, a judge at the recent show, a letter of thanks for her donation to the society of her expenses. Mr L. Robinson, 'Masterton, who was judge of the school gardens competitions, forwarded his report, lor which he was thanked. It was decided that Mr Tilson be thanked for his donation of a cup for competition, and that the society provide a miniature cup for future shows The Wairarapa Jersey Club wrote stating that it had been decided to give £lO in prizes for the Jersey section at the autumn show. A resolution was received from the Auckland Farmers’ Union in reference to the production of foodstuffs in New Zealand. Mr McGillicuddy said he had sympathetic leanings regarding certain portions of the letter. The chairman: “We have got to be careful about being drawn into a political controversy. We should have men released from military service and brought back into civil life to help with production.” Mr McGillicuddy moved and Mr Hall seconded, “that the meeting is in favour of the contents of the correspondence' from the Auckland branch of the Farmers’ Union.” An amendment, that the letter be received, was carried on a show of hands. The Ahiaruhe Sports Club was granted permission to hold its annual sports gathering on the Carterton showgrounds on a date to be arranged. .Five new members were elected and two resignations accepted. It was decided that a meeting of the general committee be held on Thursday, January 27, at 8 p.m. and that the ground committee meet on Thursday, January 13, at 10 a.m. Judges for the autumn show were appointed.
