TAXES IN CANADA
NEARLY SIX BILLION DOLLARS COLLECTED IN FOUR YEARS Ottawa. During the four years of war Canada has collected from all sources of revenue the enormous sum of 5,952,000,000 dollars. This sum includes all revenue collections during the twelve months ending August 31, 1940, 1941, 1942 and 1943 inclusive, though the amount computed for the latter period is “preliminary.” During the twelve months ended August 31, 1940, the sum of 630,000,000 dollars was collected; for the corresponding period of 1941, the amount had almost doubled, and reached the total of 1,119,000,000 dollars; for the twelve months ending August 31. 1942, the amount was 1,784,000,000 dollars; while the preliminary estimate for the twelve months ending August 31, 1943, is 2,419,000,000 dollars.
