MOTHERS’ LEAGUE MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Greytown League of Mothers was held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs Smallwood presided over a good attendance of members. Mrs A. Ross was then voted to the chair and Mrs T. Orr took up the duties of secretary, it being “members’ afternoon.” Members stood in silence for a few moments in sympathy with Mrs F. Brooks, whose brother had recently died in Sydney; with Mrs 'Spencer, provincial honorary secretary of the League of Mothers, Wellington, whose husband. Dr Montgomery Spencer, of the 2nd Echelon, died recently in the Middle East, 'and with Mrs Maunsell, president of the Masterton branch, whose son recently lost his life in action. Members who have offered to make cakes for the Mission to Seamen, Wellington, are asked to leave the same at Mrs Coleman's shop today. Mrs A. Gregor gave the thought for the month.

The following supplied musical items which were much appreciated: —Mrs Coleman (pianoforte solo), Mrs Vinsen . (song); Mrs Drysdale played several piano accordion solos. i Mrs W. J. Knell read a very interesting letter received from Lady Alice Fergusqn, Scotland. Miss Stephens, head infant mistress of the District High School, delivered an informative address, her subject being “A Welsh Mining District.” She gave an interesting description of her days as a teacher in a Welsh school. Mrs Ross thanked Miss Stephens for her address. Mrs M. Greathead read a short poem. The tea hostesses were Mesdarnes A. Haigh, A. Gregor, A. Johnson ahd J. Reid. R.S.A. Dance. The Greytown Returned Services Association will hold its annual dance in the Town Hall on Monday next. The service men who are on leave will be the guests of the association that night. Udy’s Orchestra has been engaged to supply the music and a strong ladies’ committee will have charge of the supper arrangements. Personal Items. The Rev J. Preston, of Inglewood, was a visitor to Greytown on Tuesday. Mrs W. Smart has returned home from a visit to Auckland. A cable received from Sydney announces the death of Mr Jasper Ingram at the age of 62. He was a son of the late Mr J. C. and Mrs Ingram, of Masterton. Mrs F. J. Brooks, Greytown, is a sister. TOWN HALL TWO BIG ATTRACTIONS. Tomorrow night there will be two big attractions —“Bad Men of Arizona,” a thrilling western drama, featuring Richard Dix and Kent Taylor; and “Riot Squad,” a sensational drama, starring Richard Cromwell and Rita Quigley.
