ST. JOHN’S GUILD ENJOYABLE GARDEN PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The St. John’s Ladies’ Guild assisted by Miss Irwin, of Kelvin Hospital, and the pupils of Chilton St. James School held a very successful and enjoyable garden party yesterday afternoon at Mrs Sharp’s residence. Two stalls and competitive games were well patronised. Competitions were won bv Miss Bloxam and a Chilton St. James pupil. The swimming pool races were organised by Miss Homier. The junior races were won by J. Bull and E. Johnston, and the senior races by M. Marshall and O. Clapshaw. Afternoon tea was served m the drawing room, during which Mrs Skipage entertained with songs, which were greatly appreciated. On the motion of the Rev. J. RHiggs a very hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Skipage and all those who had helped to make tne gathering such a success.

Personal Items.

The death occurred suddenly yesterday of Mr Andrew Charles Murphy, at his home at Murphy’s Line. He was 64 years of age. The funeral will take place tomorrow after a service at his late residence at 12.45 p.m. D- J. McDonald is relieving Dr. G. S .Sharp, who is spending a month’s holiday at Palliser Bay. Mrs Sharp left today for Palliser Bay, where she will spend a week., At the Bowling Club’s pavilion on Wednesdav night the president, Mr H. Rolls made a presentation to Mr F. Talbot, who has been the club’s secretary for the past two years. Mr Talbot will leave tomorrow for the South Island where he will enter camp. Bowling. ' In a pairs match played by members of the Featherston Bowling Club, W. Johnston and W. Rowles lost to W. Elder and W. Higgison. COSY THEATRE “THE GAY FALCON.” The programme at the Cosy Theatre tonight will be headed by “The Gay Falcon,” an excellent mystery story, m which George Sanders and Wendy Barrie have the leading roles. The supporting feature is the thrilling adventure picture, “The Long Voyage Home,” one of the ten best presentations of the year, and in which John Wayne portrays the chief character.
