SINGLE PLAN
FOR TOTAL OPERATIONS IN AFRICA DESTRUCTION OF ROMMEL’S ARMY. MR CHURCHILL’S COMMENT. LONDON, November 10.. In a speech in London, the British Prime Minister, Mr Churchill, said the two African undertakings were part of a single plan. The Battle of Egypt was a counterpart of the operations in the west. All that the Allies wanted in French North Africa was the opportunity of opening a new front against Hitler and Hitlerism and to reopen the Mediterranean to sea and air power. A great and decisive victory had been won in Egypt, Mr Churchill said. Rommel’s army had been defeated, routed and very largely destroyed. The battle had been fought almost throughout by men of British blood, including those from the Dominions, on the one side and by Germans on the other. The’ Italians had been left to perish in the desert.
