PATRIOTIC FUNCTION LOCAL SOLDIER ENTERTAINED. (“Times-Age” Special.) Lance-Bombadier J. Payne was en- ( tertained at the home of Mr and Mrs R. Payne, Alfredton Road on Tuesday evening by members of the Patriotic Committee and friends. Mr W. Olsen, Mayor, on behalf of the Patriotic Committee handed the guest of honour a well-filled wallet. Miss M. Anderson, president of the Borough Ladies’ Soldiers’ Comforts Committee presented Lance Bombadier Payne with a parcel of knitted comforts. Toasts were drunk and the serving of supper concluded a very jolly evening. Girl Guide Committee. A meeting of the Eketahuna Girl Guide Committee was held on Wednesday evening to consider the recommencement of Girl Guide activities. It was decided to hold an afternoon function at which Guides, Brownies and their parents could meet, and at which Brownie enrolments could be taken. Two new members were proposed for the committee in place of Mesdames Williams and Tolley who have left the district. Both the Brownie Pack and the Guide Company will recommence meetings shortly. Personal. Mrs Elcock, Mayoress of Hokitika, who has been the guest of her mother, Mrs L. Houlbrooke, Alfredton Road, has returned home. The many friends in Eketahuna of Mr Jack Fredericksen will regret tc hear he is an inmate of the Wellington Hospital. He is recovering slowly from his serious illness. The many friends of Mrs Jane Sheehyn. Waiwaka, will regret to hear she is ill. Church Service. The services in St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church will be taken by the pev. Cook, of Pongaroa, at 9.30 a.m. next Sunday.
