BRITISH TROOPS
SETTING HIGH STANDARD IN EGYPT. TRIBUTES BY EMPIRE GENERALS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.50 p.m.) LONDON, September 10. Three Empire generals have paid a tribute to the fighting qualities of the United Kingdom troops who played a major part in the past week’s victory. Lieutenant-General Freyberg said: “We have fought with their generals, gunners and tank men, but this is the first time we have fought alongside British infantry. They impressed our people very much.” The Australian, General Morshead, said the United Kingdom troops have done a magnificent job. Some of them, before coming to North Africa, had been guarding Britain’s shores, after participating in the Battle of France.
Major-General Dan Pienaar, commanding the South African Division, said the United Kingdom troops did exceptionally well. Their morale was always high, even in adversity, and after this victory will be much higher still.
