SIX-LOVE VICTORY
WON BY FLYING FORTRESSES BATTLE WITH NAZI FIGHTERS. OVER THE NORTH SEA. LONDON, August 21. The United States Air Headquarters in Britain states that Flying Fortresses destroyed or damaged six enemy fighters over the North Sea. A force of 20 to 25 fighters was engaged by eleven Fortresses. In dogfights lasting about 20 minutes the Americans scored a six-love victory. One Flying Fortress was. damaged by enemy fire and the co-pilot was killed, but all the machines, returned. Another message states that an enemy shell exploded in the cockpit of one of the Flying Fortresses, killing the co-pilot and injuring the pilot. Enemy fire also destroyed two engines of this aircraft and it was hit in many other places, but no other casualties were suffered. All the Fortresses landed safely.
