EUCHRE PARTY ENJOYABLE GATHERING. (“Times-Age” Special.) A euchre tournament was held in the Clareville Hall last evening, for the purpose of raising funds for the Boy Scouts at Clareville. The gathering was a very enjoyable one. At the conclusion of the tournament dancing was indulged in. Supper was provided by ladies of the district. The euchre tournament resulted: — Ladies: Mrs N. Daysh, 1; Mrs R. Hannah, 2. Men: Mr C. Lyster, 1; Mr F. Ammundsen, 2. Personals. Mr Lionel Smith, who is employed by the Wairarapa South County Council on water race maintenance Work, had the misfortune yesterday to badly crush a finger of his right hand when engaged in arranging large stones at the waterrace headworks. He was attended by Dr. Wells and several stitches had to be inserted in the finger. Patriotic Shop Day. The residents of Ponatahi, Ahiaruhe, Kokotau, East Taratahi and North-east Carterton held a shop day yesterday, and are to be congratulated on the success of their efforts, the sum of £2OO ‘being realised. A mock court resulted in £5B being obtained. A copper trail produced £3 Bs. The shop takings amounted to £133 14s 7d. Competitions were won as under:— Cheese, Mr A. E. Booth; iced cake, Mr W. Sorensen; goose dinner, Mrs Frewin: Sage’s hamper, E. Hart; Yule’s hamper, T .A. Hardie; ham, T. Jury; cake, A. M. Hawkins; chocolates, O. Jansen; permanent wave, B. Archer, second prize, Betty Herrick; sucking pig, H. S. Blake; groceries, Mrs W. M. Jury. Motor Garages. The Carterton motor garage proprietors have decided that owing to regulations governing the hours for the sale of motor spirits their premises will not remain open on Friday evenings. As from Monday, June 29, the garages will be open from Monday till Friday from 8 a.m. till 5 p.m., and on Saturday from 8 a.m. till noon. The garages will be closed all day on Sundays. Soldiers Entertained. A number of soldiers passed through Carterton on a route march yesterday and were entertained at morning tea by the Carterton Women’s Patriotic Committee at the State Theatre. The thoughtful action of the committee was much appreciated, Rugby Football Match. A match between the Armed Forces and Wairarapa will be played on the Carterton Showgrounds on Saturday next. Prominent New Zealand players will be seen in action and the public should witness a sparkling game. The proceeds will be donated to the'Carrerton district quota of the 1942 Patriotic Appeal. REGENT THEATRE DRAMATIC SENSATION. The dramatic sensation, “Waterloo Bridge,” will be shown tonight. The leading roles are taken by ' Vivien Leigh, Robert Taylor, Lucille Watson and Virginia Field.
