IHURAUA

WOMEN’S DIVISION SEWING GUILD MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Patriotic Sewing Guild of the Ihuraua branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held at the residence of Mrs C. R. Judd. Mrs E. H. Dagg presided over a good attendance of members. Mrs W. Cheetham, president of the Mauriceville branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, was also present. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mrs E. H. Dagg; secretary-treasurer, Miss E. Dagg; buyers, Mesdames Dagg and Judd. The report and balance sheet were adopted. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Judd for having audited the books. Mrs Dagg reported that 106 parcels had been sent to soldiers overseas during the year and many letters of appreciation had been received. She urged members to continue knitting and sewing. It was decided to procure flannel for undershirts in connection with the Lord Bledisloe appeal. Eight seven-pound parcels for overseas soldiers were packed as well as three tins of biscuits, etc., for local men in camp in New Zealand. A letter was read from Mr C. R. Judd asking the guild to do something for every man who had left the Mauriceville County and who was now in camp in New Zealand. Mr Judd stated that having sampled camp life he was able to realise some of the discomforts the men had to put up with, and the pleasure that a parcel from home could bring to the recipient. Enclosed with the letter was a cheque for £lO. Members accorded Mr and Mrs Judd musical honours in appreciation of their many generous actions. It was decided to devote the July meeting to the carrying out of Mr Judd’s wishes. A competition arranged by Mrs Weston was won by Mrs J. Bennett and Mrs R. Dagg, equal. Mrs O’Connor’s trophy was won by M. Cheetham. A “bring and buy” stall was well patronised, and brought in £2. Afternoon tea was provided by Mrs E. Dagg and Miss Dagg.
