POWER BOARD PROBLEM SHORTAGE OF MALE STAFF. (“Times-Age” Special.) At yesterday’s meeting of the Wairarapa Electric Power’ Board the sec-retary-manager, Mr Geo. Brown, drew the attention of members to the fact that the male office staff, owing to military calls, was being gradually depleted. It appeared as if the staff would ultimately consist of females. He stated that further members of the staff would shortly enter camp. He thought that, in the circumstances, it might be necessary to read meters in the towns once every two months, and those in the country at 4-monthly periods. By this means one reader could be added to the office staff. After discussion it was decided on the motion of Mr Shepherd seconded by Mr W. A. Ttate that Mi’ Brown’s recommendation be left to the chairman and the secretary-manager to consider. WEDDING CASTLE—BRADEY. Appeal by Salvation Army. The captain of the Salvation Army in Carterton appealed to the Wairarapa Power Board at its meeting yesterday to instal four heating points, four radiators and a water heater at its Red Shield Hut, Carterton. Mr Colquhoun said that the board should be careful about making grants of this kind as we are told to conserve current. He asked if gas could not be used instead. The board had at its last meeting allocated £2OO for assistance of this kind. Would it not be wise to ask that gas be installed and the cost be borne from the Power Board grant. The matter was left to Messrs Booth, Hart and the secretarymanager to go into with power to act. Football Teams.
