HIGHER WAGES
BATTLE SAID TO BE WON BY BRITISH MINERS. SUBSTANTIAL INCREASES EXPECTED. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) LONDON, June 17. The political correspondent of the “Daily Express” says that the miners have won the battle for better wages. A report on their demands for an increase of 4s a shift and a minimum of £4 5s a week, which is now in the Government’s hands, recommends a substantial increase in wages throughout the country. The Government is prepared to agree. The cost of conceding the full demands is estimated to be £40,000,000.
