RATIONING SCHEME

TEA COUPONS PERIOD EXTENDED TO JUNE 30. STATEMENT BY CONTROLLER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Tea coupons 1 to 4 will be valid up to and including June 30. Sugar coupons 5 to 8 may not be redeemed after June 21. An official statement to this effect was made yesterday afternoon by the rationing controller, Mir J. E. Thomas. On the understanding that coupons under the rationing scheme had to be redeemed by June 21, there- has been an exceptional rush to secure the prescribed allocation of eight, ounces of tea for each person for the period. This demand has presented a problem for the trade, with a further state of uncertainty caused by conflicting reports as to the actual concluding date of the first tea-rationing period. The controller’s statement is as follows: — Sugar.—Sugar coupons Nos. 5 to 8 inclusive may'not be redeemed after June 21. During the period commencing on June 22 and ending on July 31, coupons Nos. 9 to 14, inclusive, will be available. Any or all of these coupons may be redeemed at any time dining the period specified and each coupon will be available for the purchase of 12oz. of sugar. Tea. —With regard to the Press reports of doubt in some quarters as to the end of the first period for tea rationing, it is stated that coupons Nos. 1 to 4 are available for the purchase of tea up to and including June 30.
