SAVINGS FOR WAR

MORE ACCOUNTS WANTED IN MASTERTON TO ENSURE WEEKLY QUOTA. APPEAL TO CITIZENS. Thirty-six weeks have passed since the introduction of the National Savings quota campaign and during this period Masterton investors have set up a very creditable record in obtaining the allotted amount for twenty-nine consecutive weeks. With an increasing number of investors taking up military duties there is a notable decrease in the amount being deposited each week and further, the sale of National Savings Bonds is becoming negligible. To overcome this position it is now necessary for everyone to shoulder the burden and to increase their weekly investments immediately. A further appeal is made to those citizens who have, up to now, delayed in participating in this important duty of assisting with the financing of the Dominion war effort and to open a National Savings account immediately. There are 3070 accounts operating in Masterton but this figure must be increased before the weekly quota is assured. Another 1,000 new accounts should be within expectation. Deposits made in National Savings accounts up to June 30, 1943, will bear 3 per cent interest per annum and are repayable on June 30, 1945. National Savings bonds are on sale at all post offices and carry interest at the rate of 3 pel’ cent per annum for a term of five years from the date of issue. Approximately a further £420 is required this week to raise the flag.
