NO PROTEST
INTERNMENT OF AIRMEN IN TURKEY FOLLOWING ON MISSION IN BALKANS. UNITED STATES ACCEPTS . POSITION. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) WASHINGTON, June 15. , The Secretary of State, Mr Hull, said that the United States does not intend to make representations to Turkey concerning the internment of 21 American airmen forced down last week. Mr Hull said the position was similar to members of Brigadier-Gen-eral Doolittle’s squadron who were forced down in Russia and subsequently interned, following the Tokio raid on May 18. According to Mr Hull, the airmen had been on a bombing mission in the Balkans. The first news of this came from Ankara, when it was stated that four American Liberator long-range bombers had come down on Turkish soil through lack of petrol. Mr Hull said the United States was being kept informed of the matter, but he indicated that it did not demand diplomatic representations.
