WAR HOSPITALS
IN THE MIDDLE EAST MAJOR TWEEDY’S REPORT. CARE OF MILITARY GRAVES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The New Zealand Red Cross Commissioner in the Middle East, Major Tweedy, reporting to the Joint Council of the Order of St. John and the New Zealand Red Cross, says he has managed' to call at all hospitals or depots, with the exception of those in the Western Desert, where New Zealanders are patients; also the port of departure where men embark on hospital ships for the trip home. He has visited all cemeteries in and about Cairo and Tel El Keber and has inspected all graves of New Zealand soldiers. The opportunity was taken to ,photograph the graves and copies will be sent to next of kin. It was not considered that it would be possible to visit cemeteries in the Western Desert, but Major Tweedy would be pleased to obtain photos if next of kin supply the regimental number, full name and unit, forwarding the information to the secretary of the War Purposes Committee. Box 139, Te Aro. The only items of which the hospitals are in urgent need are soap and gelatine. Arrangements are being made to send both. There is a demand for magazines, particularly “Popular Mechanics,” the “Wide World” and the “National Geographic Magazine.” Copies can be sent to the nearest St. John or Red Cross representative. Major Tweedy has arrangements in hand for taking care of all New Zealanders, no matter in what part of the Middle East they may, be.
