NAZI THREAT
TO TREAT FRENCH PRISONERS AS IRREGULARS REGARDED AS PROPAGANDA. BUT WOULD BE MET BY REPRISALS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.45 a.m.) RUGBY, June 14. The French National Committee has issued the following statement in connection with the reported German threat to French troops made prisoners at Bir Hacheim:— “A spokesman of the German Foreign Office is reported to have stated that French soldiers made ’.prisoners during the glorious battle of Bir Hacheirn are to be treated as franc-tireurs. Until there is notice to the contrary, General de Gaulle and the French National Committee will regard this statement as intended for propaganda. However, should the German Army carry out the threat, General de Gaulle and the French National Committee reserve the right of taking all appropriate measures as reprisals on the many enemy prisoners who have fallen into the hands of French troops.
