Prices for fat sheep were again very firm at the stock sale today, when a large yarding was offered. Ewes specially sold well.. A fair yarding of store sheep met a good inquiry, though prices were not exceptionally good. Breeding ewes arc coming forward m increasing numbers, meeting keen inquiries. A small yarding of run cattle was offered. One or two good sales are reported. Fat cattle: Prices were definitely easy for beef, with only a fair call for ex-dairy stuff. CARTERTON SALE good demand for fat sheep. KEEN COMPETITION FOR PIGS. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. Ltd., report as follows on their weekly sale at Carterton yesterday:—A fair entry of all classes of stock was submitted to a gooa attendapce. Fat sheep met with good competition while stere- sheep sold at late values. Fat and forward cows made good prices and -pringing heifers were in demand. Included in the offering was a dairy herd on account of Mr E. J. Morgan, and although it is early for dairy farmers to buy cows, we have to report a"satisfactory sale, prices ranging from £7 to £ll ss. There was a keen demand for pigs. The following are the prices received:— Cattle: 3yr heifers in milk £lO 10s; 3yr heifers on drop (good) £lO to £l2, springing heifers (spring calvers) £G to £7; springing cows (August calvers) £7 8s to £8 10s; springing Jersey heifers £2 10s to £3 10s; fat cows £5 10s to £6 10s; forward cows £3 5s to £4 8s; cull cows £2 to £2 ss. Sheep: Fat wethers 27s to 29s 9d;,fat ewes 16s to 18s; fat lambs (heavy) 26s to 28s; medium lambs 21s to 23s Gd; fat and forward ewes 12s 9cl; ewe lambs (small) 12s to 13s; wether lambs (small) 9s to 13s Id; cullsas 9d.
