WAIRARAPA CLUB OPENS SEASON. EVENTS AT AKURA ENCLOSURE. The coursing season in the Wairarapa was successfully opened on Saturday ' at the Akura Plumpton, when the Wairarapa Club held two events. Several outside competitors took part, besides a good representation of district owners. Results are as folow:— Puppy Stake. First round: Desert Gold (L. Gray, Masterton) beat Royal Step (J. It was stated that two of the biggest coursing events in New Zealand, the Oaks and the Derby, would be held at Akura at a two-day meeting towards the end of the month. At a social and dance held in the Savage Club Rooms on Saturday evening, a presentation was made by the patron, Mr J. H. Payton, and by the president, Mr J. Bradbury, to Private W. Buick, in recognition of his many years’ 'Service to the club.
