BOWLERS’ SOCIAL

WINDUP OF THE SEASON ENJOYABLE EVENING. VARIED CONCERT PROGRAMME. Another most enjoyable social evening and dinner, organised by Mr H, B. Thomas, was a fitting conclusion to the season’s bowling activities. The accommodation of the Savage Club Rooms was fully taxed by bowlers, including visitors from Eketahuna, Carterton, and Greytown. Mr H. M. Morton was in charge of proceedings. Prior to the commencement of the concert one minute’s silence was observed in memory of those who had given their lives for their country, and as a mark of respect to the bowlers who had “passed on” during the season. A full and varied concert programme was thoroughly enjoyed by an appreciative audience. Those taking part were: Mr C. W. Kerry, pianoforte numbers; Messrs R. Gilbert and T. Hooper (Eketahuna), songs; Master Thorne, tap dances;'.’. Mr J. Gallagher, violin solos; sketches by Savages F. Price, G. Bilderbeck, B. Carstens, R. Cottle, J. Kennedy, R. Thorne, H. Smith and G. Buckeridge; humorous songs and recitations by Hr Harry Hall; and a court scene from Dickens by Mr W. Sorensen (Carterton), assisted by Messrs G. Barr, G. Hughan and F. Price. Mr C. IV. Kerry was the accompanist. An adjournment was then made to the supper room, where the decorated and well-filled tables presented a gay scene. The catering was of the same standard as that established at the initial function last year.

The chairman stated that the bowlers themselves had made the function possible financially, and that through their combined efforts, the sum of £lO 10s was made available to the Red Cross Society, to be allocated to the Prisoners of War Fund. A lengthy toast list was honoured. It was the unanimous opinion of all lhat the first anniversary of the bowlers’ social gathering, had been, like its forerunner, an outstanding success, and with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne’ a most enjoyable evening was brought to a close.
