FURTHER LANDING

t MADE BY RUSSIAN TROOPS IN CRIMEA Direct Threat to Axis Forces Round Sebastopol FURIOUS BATTLE RAGING ON COAST SOVIET SUCCESSES IN OTHER AREAS LONDON, January 7. Further Russian landings have been made in the Crimea, where large German forces are threatened with encirclement. The Germans admit a Russian landing at Eupatoria, 40 miles north of Sebastopol, but claim that the Soviet forces engaged were wiped out in house to house fighting. A Stockholm report says the Russians are established in strong positions from which they cannot be thrown out by the Germans. Another Stockholm message reports the capture by the Russians of the island of Hogland, in the Baltic, 120 miles from Kronstadt. The island had been held for some weeks past by the Finns. The Russians made a surprise landing. The Russians report further successes and the capture of more booty in the Leningrad sector. Heavy fighting is reported in the Karelian Isthmus, where the Rusisans are reported to have for the first time considerable armoured forces at their disposal.
