UNIFIED COMMAND
NORTH & SOUTH ATLANTIC ANGLO-AMERICAN ACTION. OTHER IMPORTANT STEPS TAKEN. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) WASHINGTON, January 4. It is reliably reported that Mr Churchill and President Roosevelt at tonight’s conference established a unified command of the antiAxis naval forces operating in the north and south Atlantic. The “New York Times” Washington correspondent says that Mr Roosevelt and Mr Churchill, in conference at the weekend, considerably progressed toward unification of the British and American military and naval forces and supply and shipping establishments. They not only established a unified Atlantic command, but also established a joint advisory board to study the world-wide Allied strategic requirements and help to determine where British and American war materials can be most effectively used. They further arranged the closest co-operation of the vital war departments between Whitehall and the White House, for example the co-ord-ination of the British Ministry of Shipping and the United States Maritime Commission with a view to the most effective use of the democratic merchant shipping. They further took steps for the cooperative manufacture of war equipment, thereby considerably increasing the total output.
