The following official weather report and forecast was issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, at noon today:— DISETRICT FORECAST: Fresh to strong north-westerly winds reaching gale force in exposed positions; scattered rain at times on the ranges, but weather elsewhere fair and mild. FURTHER OUTLOOK: Little change. LOCAL REPORTS. Miss A. M. Brown reports as follows for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday:—Barograph, 29.9: shade temperature, maximum, 59.7: minimum. 37.5; terrestrial, 28.0; sunshine, 1 hour -54 minutes; rain. 7 points; frost, 2.4 degrees. Miss Brown reports as follows for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. today: Barograph, 29.8; shade temperature, maximum, 68.5; minimum. 41.9; terrestrial, 31.2; sunshine, 12 hours 6 minutes. Mr H. M. Boddington reports that 3 points of rain fell at Solway during the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. today. PHASES OF THE MOON. New moon, January 17. First quarter, January 24. Full moon, February 2.
