ACTING-PRINCIPAL WELCOMED BUSINESS AT MEETING LAST NIGHT. LETTER FROM TRADES’ COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa College Board of Governors was held in Masterton last night. The chairman. Mr W. R. Nicol, presided. There were also present: Mrs J. L. Hair, Messrs F. C. Daniell, L: T. Daniell, T. Hanley, A. Owen Jones, and F. M. Whyte. An apology for absence was received from Mr J. D. O'Connor. On behalf of the board Mr Nicol extended a welcome to the new actingprincipal, Mr F. J. Gair. Mr Nicol said that he hoped that Mr Gains stay; would be a happy one, Mr Gair, in returning thanks, referred to the splendid manner in which board members had assisted him. It was decided to send a letter of thanks to the Parents’ Association for the assistance given to the school during the year. It was reported that the annual display of work would be held in about ten days’ time. The teaching staff were congratulated on the orderly manner in which arrangements for pupils to attend the recent educational film had been carried out.

A letter was received from the r-’ades and Labour Council expressing concern at “the appointment of an outsider to the position of actingprincipal.” Without discussion it was decided to advise the council that the relative merits of the applicants for the position had been fully considered before an appointment was made. Reference was made to the kindly action of the Masterton Rotary Club in sending r. s party of pupils to Kapiti Island to study bird life. It was decided that a letter of appreciation be sent to the club. The educational committee was asked to bring down a report on special prizes and the presentation of prizes at the annual break-up ceremony. It was reported that the College would have an entry in the district lamb competition which was held today- . . . , In his report the acting-principal stated that evening classes would cease this week.
