HAPPY GATHERING

AT WHATMAN HOME BRIGHT PROGRAMME PRESENTED. MANY VISITORS PRESENT. A happy time was spent at the Whatman Home, Masterton, on Saturday night when a bright programme was presented by Miss Freda Masters and a party of entertainers. Included among the large attendance of visitors were Brigadier and Mrs Perry, Miss Jean Perry and Mr Frank Perry, of the Salvation Army Hut, Trentham Camp, and Captain and Mrs Ojala (Carterton), Mr G. Masters presided over the gathering. Major Victor J.- Dick, manager of the Home, welcomed the visitors. At the conclusion of the programme Rose Franklin and Stanley Cole suitably returned thanks on behalf of the children for the entertainment. The programme was as follows: — National Anthem; pianoforte duet, “Nola,” Misses F. and P. Masters; lightning sketching, Mr F. Price; songs, “Lords of the Air,” “Veteran’s Song,” Mr S. Alpe; pianoforte solos, “Golliwog’s Cakewalk,” “Teddy Bears’ Picnic,” Mr H. Filer; quartettte, ‘When the Angels Have Lifted the Veil;” whistling medley, Mr S. Al’pe; pianoforte ducts,. “Valso Caprice,” “Anitra’s Lanz,” Miss F. Masters and Mr H. Filer; songs, “The Longshoreman,*’ “When Father Laid the Carpet on the Stairs,” Mr G. Masters; character sketch, “Variations on Little Miss Muffett,” Mr D. Storkey; song, “There’ll Always be an England,” children of the Home, led by Mr S. Alpe.
