OUTSIDE THE DEFENCES OF TOBRUK TANK PATROLS DISPERSED. , SIR ,T. BLAMEY STRESSES VALUE OF STRONGHOLD. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, November 13. In Libya renewed activity is reported on the western perimeter of the Tobruk defences. A number of enemy patrols, with tanks, were dispersed by the fire of the garrison. In the frontier area also increased enemy activity is reported, but British patrols have carried out extensive reconnaissances unhindered. The importance of the garrison at Tobruk was stressed in Melbourne today by General Sir Thomas Blarney, Deputy Commander-in-Chief in the Middle East. It would require a very strong force to take Tobruk, he said. The force would have to be so strong in fact that the enemy position in the whole of Libya would be made very precarious. AIR ATTACKS AXIS PLANE SHOT DOWN. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.50 a.m.) RUGBY, November 13. Military quarters in London state that on the night of November 10 enemy aircraft were over Tobruk on five occasions, singly or in pairs. They dropped bombs, but there were no casualties. On November 11 enemy aircraft machine-gunned and dive-bomb-ed one of our posts on. the south-west perimeter. One aircraft was shot down and there were no British casualties. There has been some air and patrol activity in the frontier area, but there is no special incident to report.
