GREYTOWN

LEAGUE OF MOTHERS MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown League of Mothers was hold in the Parish Hall when Mrs Bull presided over a good attendance of members. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mrs A. H. Bull (re-elected); vice-presidents, Mesdames A. Haigh, A. W. Horton, E. Maddison; secretary, Mrs W. G. K. Wiggins (re-elected); treasurer, Mrs Knell (re-elected); magazine secretary, Mrs Greathead (re-elected); committee, Mesdames Orr, Everett, Te Whaiti, Anker, Nicholson and sick visitor, Mrs Bensemen; pianist. Mrs H. G. Carter (re-elected). Mrs Bull thanked members for their co-operation during the year. Mrs Coleman read the thought for the month: “Looking Forward;” also two poems written by a one-time member, Mrs McMinn, of Masterton. Miss Mace, Sports Mistress of St. Matthew’s College, kindly consented to speak at the next League- meeting. The choir sang two glees, “The Blue Danube” and “Neapolitan Nights.” Miss Higginson, Matron of the Greytown Hospital, was the speaker for the afternoon, giving an excellent address on Malta. The Maltese people were deeply religious, she said. The churches there were very beautiful. The women were mostly all lace makers. Fruit was plentiful, especially grapes. Mrs Bull thanked Miss Higginson for hei’ instructive address. The hostesses were Mesdames Maddison, Shedden, A. Haigh and Svenson. PLUNKET SOCIETY MEETING OF MEMBERS. The bi-monthly meeting of the Greytown branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Plunket rooms on Monday evening. Mrs Maddison occupied the chair. Also present were: Mesdames Anker, Horton, Everett, Gregor, Burns, Kiernan, Bull and Bunny. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames York, Wiggins, Richards, Haigh, Bayliss and Stuart. A credit balance at the bank of £33 18s 6d was reported. The Greytown Town Lands Trust forwarded a grant for £lO.

BOWLING CLUB ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS. The annual meeting of the Greytown Bowling Club was held on Monday evening. Mi’ T. Connolly presided and there were twenty members present. The annual report stated that the past season had been a most successful one. The one-day competitions had been very enjoyable and had been well supported by the Masterton and Park clubs. The club expressed thanks to Mr H. B. Thomas, of Masterton, for his splendid assistance. The club still hold the Grady Medals and Centre Fours badges. Thanks were recorded to the Park Club for the use of its green for the Anniversary Day tournament. The winners of the club championships were:— Singles: N. S. McLeod; juniors, E. Skeet; pairs, F. Dennes and W. Higgison: rinks, H. Wallace, F. Bunny, W. Kilgour, N. S. McLeod. This rink won the Wairarapa champion fours competition. Mr A. Campbell donated two cups for competition and the club regret that he has now left the district. For the first 'time in its history the club is free of debt, and has a credit balance.

Messrs W. Higgison and J. Burden were accorded a vote of thanks for the work they had done during the winter in improving the pavilion. The election of. officers the year resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr W. H. Day; president, Mr G. Burns; vicepresidents, Messrs S. Shedden, G. Brunton; delegates, Messrs .G. Burns, N. McLeod, F. Dennes; match committee, Messrs W. Kilgour, G. Burns, G. Brunton; green supervisor, Mr W. Kilgour; selector, Mr P. Kenning; treasurer, Mr N. McLeod; secretary, Mr H. J. Nightingale; auditor, Mr J. Kiernan; committee, Messrs J. Reid, J. Stringfellow, J. Burden, F. Dennes, H. B. Wallace. The delegates to the Centre were instructed to support Booth Cup and one-rink Shield competitions. A sub-committee was appointed to arrange fo heating appliances to replace the gas. Personal Items. Mrs R. Thomas, Sent., Moroa Road, is visiting Wellington. Miss Tate, Kuratiwhiti Street, is spending a holiday in Wellington. Miss Muir Maddison has returned from a visit to Nelson. A pleasant time was spent last evening at the residence of Mrs Brunton, Senr., Main Street, when the Croquet Club members ■ entertained honorary members and friends. Games and competitions were indulged in. Mrs H. G. Carter presented Mrs Brunton with a shoulder spray. Supper was supplied by the members.
